Game director Jean-Francois Dugas said:
“Not at all. What we did is keeping the Essence and the core values of what made the original a great game. Playing DXHR plays and feel like a DX game. But it’s not DX1 nor IW. It stands on its own with its strengths and flaws like the first 2 games. And that was our goal. Trying to replicate the first one would have been an error, in my opinion. We needed to bring our own stamp to the franchise and this is what we did.
Of course, certain decisions might have pissed some old fans or not. But in the end, I don’t believe it had a detrimental effect on the overall experience. The feedback we received since the game’s release goes in the same direction. And don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. If I had the chance to go back, I’d probably do certain things differently but it would still be DXHR, not DX1.”
